Visa Inc., the global leader in digital payments and Pesapal have today announced a strategic partnership to drive connected digital payments to consumers and businesses in Africa. Pesapal will become a Visa Principal Member driving small business acquiring and issuing. Pesapal has created Africa's only payments ecosystem that offers Ecommerce, Point of Sale and Consumer applications on one platform. Pesapal recruits and supports businesses to be able to digitize payment collection securely while integrating to business internal systems such as POS, ERP, Accounting and Billing systems. Visa introduces ‘Visa Secure’ – a new program for frictionless payments and improved online experience

Visa Inc., the world leader in digital payments, introduced Visa Secure (previously known as Verified by Visa), an updated program to help make online payments more secure. Available across the Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa (CEMEA) region, Visa Secure provides rules and policies merchants and issuing banks have to follow to authenticate eCommerce transactions and verify cardholder identity before a transaction can be authorized. Visa Secure uses the latest EMV 3-D Secure (3DS) specification, which is the new industry-wide messaging protocol designed to promote frictionless consumer authentication. It enables consumers to verify their identity with their issuing bank or other entity (issuer) when making card-not-present (CNP) eCommerce/online payments. Visa Foundation Commits Ksh 21bn to Support Immediate COVID-19 Emergency Relief, Small and Micro Businesses

The Visa Foundation today announced a commitment of two programs totaling $210 million (Ksh 21 billion) to to address the urgent need from local communities following the spread of COVID-19, as well as to support small and micro businesses, aligning with the Foundation’s long-term focus on women’s economic advancement and inclusive economic development. Growing tourist numbers, economic diversity steady Kenya GDP growth rate - ICAEW

Most East African countries have a positive economic outlook, largely due to the positive performance brought about by economic diversification. This is according to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales’ (ICAEW) latest report, Economic Update: Africa Q1 2020. The accountancy body provides GDP growth forecasts for various regions, including East Africa which is set to grow by 6%, West and Central Africa at 3.1%, Franc Zone at 4.9%, and Southern Africa at 1.3%. African destinations open up to British Airways’ customers with Royal Air Maroc codeshare agreement

British Airways and Royal Air Maroc have announced a new codeshare agreement which will open up new routes across Morocco including Casablanca and Agadir.  It will also give customers more flight flexibility between London Heathrow and Marrakesh. Customers will be able to book from 13 February when the new agreement takes effect and codeshare flights will operate from 20 February, prior to the Moroccan airline’s joining of the Oneworld  alliance on 1 April 2020. British Airways’ first African codeshare will give its customers more choice of services between Heathrow and Marrakesh. As well as daily access to Royal Air Maroc’s hub in Casablanca, which is not currently served directly by British Airways. Travellers across the world, including 500 Kenyans, are increasingly prioritizing value over cost, demanding more autonomy over personalization and using digital solutions to research and manage their trips. Air Afrik to lay off 200 staff following Stanbic Bank's fraudulent dealings

Air Afrik will cut roughly 80 per cent of its salaried staff in both Kenya and South Sudan by November as part of the company’s restructuring process. The move will eliminate 200 white-collar jobs.   The carrier hit major turbulence following the loss of a $20 million plane-leasing contract with the government of South Sudan. Since the loss of the contract and the court case against Stanbic Bank the company has been reviewing its process; fitting people into the right jobs and in the process, some roles have become redundant. “ We understand this is a challenging time for our team, but these steps were necessitated following Stanbic Bank ’ s negligent errors, oversight and unlawful actions, ” the company said in a statement The court case stems from a banking transaction gone awry.
