Flourish Ventures and Bolt set for Webinar on Women in the gig economy

Bolt, the leading on-demand transportation platform in Africa, and Flourish Ventures, a global fintech venture capital firm, with a strong focus on Africa, are set to hold a webinar on Women and the Gig Economy. The webinar, which is aimed at highlighting opportunities that the gig economy presents to women will be held on Thursday the 25th of March 2021 and will focus on educating, encouraging more women to engage in gig work while addressing the specific challenges that women face in joining the gig industry.

Themed “Women in the gig economy: Opportunities and Challenges”, the webinar will seek to celebrate women in the gig economy, highlighting the opportunities while also addressing specific challenges that women face in joining the gig sector. The webinar will encourage discussion on what could be done to welcome more women to the gig economy with an emphasis on both business and government solutions to drive inclusion.

Hillary Miller-Wise, the Africa Regional Director at Bolt Food, said that the webinar is a prime opportunity for more light to be shed on the diverse and inclusive nature of the gig economy. “The Gig economy is a real driver for transformation across Africa in terms of providing new streams of revenue generation. It does present women with a good opportunity to earn a living on their own terms and with flexible hours. This discussion is, therefore, a prime opportunity to further unlock new opportunities and avenues around this very pertinent issue for Africa,” she added.

Efayomi Carr, Principal at Flourish Ventures, noted that despite the challenges of the past year, the African gig economy will recover and continue to contribute to economic growth on the continent. “The insights that we shall share during the engagement will point us in the right direction in our journey towards including more women in the gig economy in Africa,” he added.

The webinar will feature Hillary Miller-Wise, Efayomi Carr, Dr Jane Munga a Policy Expert at the Ministry of ICT and Naomi Wanjiru, a media owner and women empowerment advocate.

Moderating the webinar will be TerryAnne Chebet, a former media and communications practitioner and now the founder and CEO of Keyara Botanicals who will share her insights on how she has managed to earn a living in the gig economy through her digital presence and profile.

Bolt launches its car-sharing service Bolt Drive

Bolt, the leading European mobility platform, launches its car-sharing service, Bolt Drive.
